Big Ed is one of the most controversial reality stars featured on TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé. The American photographer appeared on the program alongside his now-ex girlfriend Rose. And the woman is now his ex for a good reason. Big Ed trashed Rose for her appearance, and even on one occasion used a fake social media account to tell her how ugly he finds her. Not cool, Ed! The reality star’s criticisms of Rose were so intense that some fans might even think that Ed has never been the target of online bullying himself. Well, not so fast.
Big Ed has actually been mocked by his appearance on my accounts, thanks to a condition called Klipper-Feil Syndrome. But what are the symptoms? And can Big Ed ever be cured? Read on to find out more about the reality star and his medical condition.
What Exactly Is Klipper-Feil?
Some fans may have noticed that Big Ed’s neck is hardly visible. While most television viewers shrug this off as being merely a sign of weight gain, it is actually a signal of a way more serious condition. According to Screen Rant, the reality star actually has been diagnosed with a condition called Klipper-Feil Syndrome, which causes Big Ed’s shorter neck length. But can the condition ever be cured?
The answer to that question is a firm: ‘no.’ There is no cure for Klipper-Feil, reports the National Institute Of Neurological Disorders And Stroke. This is because the condition is caused by two of the bones in Big Ed’s neck, which are actually fused together. The process of bone fusion happens prior to birth, meaning that Big Ed has most likely had this condition throughout his entire life. However, the good news is the symptoms can be managed through plenty of physical therapy and exercise.
The Impact On Big Ed
Unfortunately, living with Klipper-Feil Syndrome is not always easy, and Big Ed has often found himself at the butt of cruel jokes about his appearance. The reality TV star did not take the mocking in silence.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Big Ed opened up about his experiences with body shaming. “I have a limited range of movement,” he told the outlet, “I have a bigger than normal chest cavity, so I’ve been made fun of my whole life.” However, all of the bullying has not stopped him from loving himself. “The most important thing I’ve learned... is that I’m different, and it’s Ok to be different,” Big Ed said.
That’s all fine and dandy, but why would Big Ed cyberbully Rose if he knew how harmful a dose of body shaming really could be? Maybe he wanted to hurt her, and it was the best way he knew how. We can find out for sure by following his story on TLC.
